Counterfeit bottles and diluted decants do exist in the fragrance market. Knowing a few simple checks, and how to store your bottles properly, helps you get the full fragrance the perfumer intended.
1. The Batch Code Check
Most authentic designer and niche bottles carry a batch code printed or etched on the bottom of the bottle. On boxed retail products, this code usually matches the code printed on the outer box.
At CCC Fragrance House LLC, we sell only 100% authentic designer and niche fragrances. Some items are testers, which may come in plain packaging. If you have a question about a product, contact us at info@cccfragrancehouse.store.
2. Atomizer Build Quality and Cellophane Wrapping
Counterfeiters often cut corners on details customers rarely inspect until unboxing:
- Cellophane Seals: Boxed retail perfumes usually have tight, neatly folded cellophane with clean seams, not sloppy glue or bubbling film. (Testers are often sold without cellophane.)
- Atomizer Tube: Genuine bottles usually have a thin, clear dip tube that sits neatly in the bottle without cloudy plastic or kinks.
- Cap Fit: A well-made cap should fit firmly and securely.
3. How to Store Perfume to Prevent Oxidation
The three enemies of fragrance are heat, light and humidity. Avoid storing your perfume in a bathroom cabinet, where shower steam and temperature swings can change delicate top notes.
Store your bottles in a cool, dark drawer or closet. Good storage helps a fragrance keep its character for years.
4. Tips to Help Your Fragrance Last Longer
To help your fragrance last, apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer or petroleum jelly to pulse points before spraying. The extra moisture helps hold the fragrance on your skin for longer.
